Abstract: The United States of America are often regarded as a country of immigration par excellence. Initially, the majority of people immigrating to the U.S. were of European origin. Nowadays, the majority of newcomers are from Latin America. Therefore, the Hispanic population has gained importance also on the political level. Presidential elections show that candidates try to reach out to Hispanic voters in order to win their support. The country profile gives an overview of these and other current developments with regard to immigration in the USA.
