Abstract: Die Bevölkerung der 1949 gegründeten Volksrepublik China ist ethnisch und kulturell sehr heterogen. Neben der Han-Nationalität gibt es 55 ethnische Gruppen, die sogenannten anerkannten nationalen Minderheiten. Der Ausländeranteil beträgt allerdings nur 0,05 Prozent bzw. 0,1 Prozent, wenn in China lebende Personen aus Hongkong, Macao und Taiwan hinzugezählt werden. Die Volksrepublik ist damit kein Einwanderungsland. Sie verfügt nur eingeschränkt über Instrumente zur Migrationssteuerung. Ihre integrationspolitische Aufgabe sieht die chinesische Führung vielmehr in den politischen, wirtschaftlichen und soziokulturellen Herausforderungen, die sich aus der historisch gewachsenen Vielvölkerstaatlichkeit Chinas ergeben.
